Demand a Public hearing!

Join 100’s of others and support a call for a public hearing. Email and call Bob Wylie, provincial approving officer, and demand to know when the public hearing for Western Forest Products' subdivision application regarding Jordan River and surroundings will be taking place.

We must demonstrate that this is an issue people care about, and there is a strong need for a public hearing.

Some points to include in your letter:

1. I am in opposition to Western Forest Products subdivision application, for several reasons, and a public hearing is the proper forum to further voice my concerns.

2. As the provincial approving officer, you have the authority to call a public hearing.

3. Under the Land Title Act section 85(3) the approving officer is authorized to reject subdivision applications that are against the public interest. In your consideration of whether an application is contrary to the public interest, you are authorized by s. 86(1)(b) of the Land Title Act to "hear from all persons who, in the approving officer's opinion, are affected by the subdivision." The courts have endorsed public hearings as a useful aid to approving officers in their consideration of the public interest.

4. When the lands in question were initially taken out of Western Forest Products Tree Farm Licence deletion, the Forest Minister stated that the fate of these lands were to be decided by the community. Local communities have already spoken out and supported changes to the zoning on these lands, but now these subdivisions applications ignore the entire public process. You must restore legitimacy to the public process by holding public hearings.

5. The entire government must be held accountable for this betrayal of the public trust.

6. Please let me know when and where the hearings will take place.

Please CC a copy of your letter to Gordon Campbell at premier@gov.bc.ca or even better send a snail mail letter to: Room 156 Parliament Buildings, Victoria, BC, V8V 1X4
Don't forget to CC Maurita@dogwoodinitiative.org so we can keep a record, should we need to prove correspondence in the future.

Thanks, you letter will make a difference!
